Lots of events this summer!

This is a little lengthy, but bear with us .... there's lots to tell you about!  Read on for what we are planning for this summer.

2.30pm, Sunday 27 May - We are marking the culmination of Amnesty's 50th birthday year with a get-together at the peace temple at Willen Lake for the new local group, meeting up with members old and new and raising our profile with the general public.  Look out for the stall and balloons near the temple.  We'll also be having a picnic (weather permitting) as well as a speaker from Amnesty (tbc) to remind us why human rights campaigning work is still so important in the world.  Please come and support the cause - bring friends, family and picnic rugs.

7pm, Weds 6 June - our next regular monthly meeting date will have a speaker from Amnesty on the international negotiations to set up the world's first ever Arms Trade Treaty.  These negotiations will start in July and it is important that we get a strong Treaty which has comprehensive scope to include such things as tear gas and bullets, and which has strong measures of enforcement and transparency to change the way that arms transfers are made.  Email the Amnesty MK Group <amnestymiltonkeynes@gmail.com> for venue confirmation.

Saturday 1 September - our fundraising quiz night, Simpson, Milton Keynes.  Lots of fun!  Mark the date in your diaries!  More details nearer the time.

Weds 5 September - Amnesty's Turkey country coordinator will talk about the human rights situation in Turkey and in particular the details of our local group's Individual at Risk case, Ferhat Gercek, a young man who was shot and paralysed by the policy and is now outrageously facing an unfair trial himself.  Come and find out more, and let's work to help Ferhat obtain justice.

Over the summer, we're planning a presence at lots of local events and festivals in Newport Pagnell, Stony Stratford and other locations. If you would like to be added to our mailing list, please email us and let us know - email amnestymiltonkeynes@gmail.com.

Our MK group website should also be going live any time now also, so please check for local activities and updates via the link on Amnesty's web pages - https://www.amnesty.org.uk/ .  We meet every first Wednesday of the month, and we would love to have you involved.
