Saudi Arabian Gender Inequality
In this Middle Eastern country there remains distinct gender differences in rights and obligations. All women, regardless of age are required to have a male guardian. Women cannot vote or be elected to high political positions and are forbidden from pursuing most professions.
Saudi Arabia is the only country in the world that prohibits women from driving. The campaign calls on Saudi authorities to allow women to drive lawfully without the risk of persecution as an initial step towards guaranteeing their basic human rights.
Activists from all over the world are sharing images and sending messages of solidarity in support of women such as Manal al-Sharif who was arrested for posting a video of herself driving in defiance of the ban.
