Write for Rights - Thursday 26th November at 7pm
As you may well be aware Amnesty International UK runs an annual Write for Rights campaign. This is when around a dozen cases of individuals are selected and we are encouraged to write on behalf of these people to identified targets, and directly to them, in solidarity. As a result this is the largest grassroots human rights movement in the world.
Please join us on Thursday 26th November at 7pm for Lambeth Amnesty's Write for Rights. Your letters, combined with hundreds of thousands of letters from around the world, will make a difference in the fight against injustice. Your letter can change a life. All the cards and information about the cases will be provided and everyone is welcome. You can come and sign one card or stay and send one to every case! We're meeting at the Effra Social, 89 Effra Road, Brixton, SW2 1DF
Here is how your words and ongoing campaigning made change happen in one case last year:
“While before I felt all hope had gone, the story changed when Amnesty International came in. The messages I received overwhelmed me. I regained hope.” Moses Akatugba
(The Governor of the Niger Delta responded to pressure from Amnesty supporters and granted a full pardon to Moses Akatugba, who had been sentenced to death, aged 16, for stealing three phones.)
