Nunhead Cemetery Open Day and I am Aster

On Saturday 19 May we will be at Nunhead Cemetery Open Day from 11am - 5pm. The Open Day includes stalls from different organisations, tours of the cemetery, food and drink. For more information see their website here:

One of the actions we will be focusing on on our stall will be Aster Fissehatsion. Aster is a former Eritrean senior government official and was arrested 18th September 2001 along with 10 other signatories to a letter which made proposals for solving what it called the "crisis of Eritrea". Since 2001, there has been no official information about the prisoners. They have never been charged with any offence.

To press for her and the other prisoners release, we have been asked to gather the support of UK female politicians through photos with 'I AM ASTER' placards and signed letters to President Isaias and the Eritrean Ambassador in London. The day before International Women's Day Anna and Patrik from the Lambeth group met with local MP Kate Hoey and the photo of her is attached.

May 24th is Liberation Day in the Eritrean calendar and we are planning to present a paper petition to the Eritrean Embassy in London on that day. We'll be collecting signatures at Nunhead Cemetery Open Day (on Saturday 19 May) for this.
