Suffragette Exhibition

Mary Murdoch, 1864-1916, Hull's much loved first female GP, was a prominent national campaigner for gender equality, votes and careers for women, and better conditions for the poor.

As the founding president of Hull's suffrage society she led its members in rousing people at meetings locally and in neighbouring towns and in organising a petition to the House of Commons.

In 2016 Hull Amnesty Group commissioned a local artist to create a gigant of Mary, which will form part of an exhibition celebrating the suffrage movement in this area at Hull Minster from 27th February to 26th March 2018. On 8th March, International Women's Day, Professor Katharine Cockin will give a lecture about Dr Murdoch's work.
