FRIENDS OF MARY

Hull Amnesty Group is delighted to have been awarded the Marsh Award 2016, £500, in support of our creative project to create a larger than life-sized effigy of a local champion of human rights.

Mary Murdoch lived and worked as Hull's first female GP until her death in 1916.  As founding president of the Hull branch of the National Union of Women Workers in 1905, and later as national vice-president, she promoted opportunities for women, inspiring some to stand for election to local administrative boards and the council.

During this centenary year of her death, Hull Amnesty Group is celebrating the life and work of this remarkable woman.     A local artist is creating the effigy, which will be shown in local community events and as a feature in education projects in the city.

To help to cover costs, we are inviting people  to become a "Friend of Mary" - donations to Hull Amnesty Group, Friends of Mary, c/o 10 Strathmore Avenue, Hull HU6 7HJ.
