Monashay (Gypsy Woman) - première of documentary about the Roma of Romania: 9 October
Monashay (dir. Elena Dirstaru, UK, 2013, 36 minutes) follows the personal stories of Romani women of different generations in rural Romania and how their lives are shaped by the daily discrimination they face.
Filled with warmth and humour that shatters stereotypes, it gives these women a chance to tell us their views about themselves and society, including their hopes for their children's future.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker, Elena Dirstaru, and a panel discussion with Barbora Cernušáková (Amnesty International Secretariat), Ognyan Stanchev (Roma rights activist), and Ulrike Schmidt (Hackney & Islington Amnesty Group).
