Demo outside the Iranian Embassy for Atena Farghadani 18th May 2015 12-1pm

This is an early notification that Amnesty International are arranging a demonstration outside the Iranian Embassy  (16 Princes Gate, London, SW7 1PT) on Monday 18th May 2015 between 12.00 and 1.00 pm for the Prisoner of Conscience Atena Farghadani.

Atena Farghadani is an artist and women's rights activist who has been arrested for producing artwork that criticised the government.  Amnesty International considers Atena a Prisoner of Conscience and is calling for her immediate release.  Amnesty International will hand in a petition and demontrate in solidarity with Atena.

Atena's trial has been set for Tuesday 19th May.  As the Embassy is only open until 12.30 pm we need to do the hand-in while the Embassy is open and to coincide with potential coverage from the Persian media to maximise publicity in Iran in time for the trial.  We want to show our solidarity with Atena and send a message to the Iranian authorities through the Embassy that the world is watching.

Krisztina Såroy, the Iran Country Co-ordinator for AI is leading on contact with the Embassy so if you have any further questions you can contact Krisztina on krisztinsaroy@gmail.com
