July has been a very busy month for Urgent Actions. Here is some of the urgent actions that we have received. Each case contains details of how you can help.
BAHRAIN - PROMINENT BAHRAINI ACTIVIST IMPRISONED
Prominent human rights activist Nabeel Rajab was arrested on 9th July, having been convicted of libel. The charges relate to tweets he posted in June criticising the government. He is also facing more charges with a hearing due on 16th July.
Nabeel Rajab, the director of the Bahrain Human Rights Centre was previously subjected to police brutality during a protest in February 2012 and briefly hospitalized. He will be at risk of torture or other ill-treatment if he returns to prison.
Please write to the Bahraini authorities to urge for his immediate release.

Hundreds of armed militias that fought against Mu’ammar al-Gaddafi’s repressive regime now pose the greatest threat to human rights in Libya.
Arbitrary arrests and detention, torture, unlawful killings and forcible displacement are casting a shadow over Libya’s first national elections since the fall of al-Gaddafi’s regime. Please email the Libyan authorities and call on them to ensure human rights are respected. Click this link for addresses to write to and more details including a sample letter.
COLUMBIA - PARAMILITARIES THREATEN PEACE COMMUNITY
Members of the Peace Community of San José de Apartadó in northern Colombia have received death threats from paramilitaries. The Colombian armed forces have acknowledged the presence of paramilitaries but failed to protect the civilian population. Farmers have received death threats and intimidation.

INDIA - 15 YEAR OLD DETAINED IN KASHMIR
Umar Farooq Sheikh has now been released, no more action is required. Thanks to anyone who sent appeals.
JAPAN - HIGH RISK OF EXECUTIONS
Following a statement supporting the death penalty by the new Japanese Minister of Justice, there is a high risk of over 130 death row inmates being executed imminently.
Please write to the Japanese authorities to urge for a morartorium on all executions.

EGYPT - THREE ACTIVISTS HELD BY THE EGYPTIAN ARMY
Three political activists have been detained by the Egyptian Army. The three men, all civilians are possible prisoners of conscience and at risk of torture or other ill-treatment in detention. They are likely to face an unfair trial before a military court.
Please write to the Egyptian authorities to urge for their release.
