August has been another very busy month for Urgent Actions. Here is some of the urgent actions that we have received. Each case contains details of how you can help.
BAHRAIN - BAHRAINI ACTIVIST SENTENCED TO THREE YEARS
After featuring on our Urgent Action pages several times this year prominent human rights activist Nabeel Rajab was sentenced to three years imprisonment on 16th August for taking part in anti-government protests and for making anti-government tweets. He is appealing all charges.
Nabeel Rajab, the director of the Bahrain Human Rights Centre was previously subjected to police brutality during a protest in February 2012 and briefly hospitalized. Amnesty International regards him as prisoner of conscience and fears that he is at risk of torture or other ill-treatment in prison.
Please write to the Bahraini authorities to urge for his immediate release.

MEXICO - DEATH THREATS FOR CAMPAIGN AGAINST FARE RISE
Activist Gabriel Rivas Rios has received death threats following acting as spokesperson at a press conference announcing the formation of a movement against increases in public transport fares in the state of Morelos.
Please write to the Mexican authorities urging protection for Gabriel Rivas Riose, to investigate the threatening phone calls and to guarantee that rights of freedom of association and expression will not be violated when planned demonstrations against the fare rises take place.

INDONESIA - PAPUAN POLITICAL ACTIVIST AT RISK
Former Amnesty International prisoner of conscience Yusak Pakage has been arrested following an incident at a trial of Papuan political activist Buchtar Tabuni. While in detention he has reportedly been denied medical treatment and threatened with torture. He appears to have been targeted due to his work as a human rights activist and his connections with the pro-independence movement in Papua.
Please write to persuade the authorities to ensure that Yusak Pakage is not tortured or ill-treated and has access to medical treatment.

THE GAMBIA - ALL GAMBIAN DEATH ROW INMATES TO BE EXECUTED
Gambian president Yahya Jammeh has announced that all death row inmates will be executed by mid-September following a 27-year period without executions. There are 47 inmates under sentence of death. Death sentences are known to be used as a tool against the political opposition in The Gambia and international standards on fair trials are often not respected.
Please write to the Gambian authorities to urge them to retract this call for executions and persuade them to impose a morartorium on all executions.

IRAN - SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR PHONING A TV SHOW
Gholemreza Khosrevi has been sentenced to death for contacting Iranian TV station IRANNTV.COM to pledge support for their programmes which raise awareness of human rights abuses committed by the Islamic fundamentalist regime. His date of execution is set for 10th September.
