February & March diary dates
Come to our meetings and learn more about the realities on the ground for those fleeing their homes and seeking refuge elsewhere and for Palestinians living in the West Bank.
Our next meeting is on Thursday 11th February from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. in Chipping Norton's Lower Town Hall. Amongst other things to be considered, is how we might be of practical help to two local initiatives providing assistance to refugees and asylum seekers who have arrived in Europe but who are stranded "in transit'. Some members have recently contributed much needed clothing and food for a container bound for Lesvos. Specific items - including new socks - are currently being collected for delivery to French ports.
Our March meeting is on Thursday 10th March, same time, same place! This is not to be missed! Our invited speaker, Karen Fairfax-Cholmeley will be helping us to understand more about the Palestinian situation. Her talk is entitled "Palestine 2016: Hope or Hopelessness? Stories from Palestinians living in West Bank". First as a lawyer and now as educationalist Karen applies her knowledge to helping the Palestinian people in their non-violent struggle to uphold dignity and human rights by engaging with them through education. There will be Zaytoun goods for sale, including olive oil, dates, and zatar (a popular Middle Eastern mixture of herbs and spices); so bring your shopping bag!
