Letter writing this Monday, Write for Rights in December and bookclub in January

Letter writing this Monday, 7:30pm, CB2, 3 Write for Right events in December and first ever Amnesty Cambridge bookclub meeting on Wednesday 14th January, reading "I am Troy Davis"

I have just bought the book "I am Troy Davis" to read for the first Amnesty Cambridge bookclub meeting on Wednesday 14th January. I hope you'll be able to join us as it'll be no doubt an interesting discussion. For more details about the meeting and bookclub, click here. (You can register, but don't need to, just turn up)

I can still remember the evening of 21st September 2011 when the state of Georgia executed Troy Davis. After campaigning for him for several years, I really couldn't believe that they would go ahead as there were overwhelming doubts about his guilt. But they did, leaving a family in grief and thousands and thousands of campaigners in shock. Had they executed an innocent man?

The death penalty is the ultimate, irreversible denial of human rights. By working towards the abolition of the death penalty worldwide, Amnesty International aims to end the cycle of violence created by systems riddled with economic and racial bias and tainted by human error. If you would like to be involved in anti-death penalty letter writing and campaigning in Cambridge, please e-mail Sue Woodsford on

The bookclub is well after Christmas (Christmas present?) and before then there will be several events, one of those being the letter writing this Monday evening 24th November, 7:30pm at CB2. We'll be writing letters for prisoners of conscience and individuals  in immediate danger of torture, execution, forced eviction and other abuses.

You can find a full listing of the Cambridge City group events on our Eventbrite pages here. Registration is optional apart from our Write for Rights event on Tuesday 16th December, where upon registration you'll receive full address details.  An events overview for the next weeks is below:
