Amnesty Scotland joins worldwide candlelit vigil for Raif Badawi 22nd January
This is a message from Siobhan Reardon, Programme Director Scotland for Amnesty International:
"I realise that many of you won't be able to join us tomorrow for a vigil for Raif Badawi outside the Scottish Parliament, but I wanted to let you know that in the last day we have joined with Amnesty sections around the world to hold a vigil for the Saudi Arabian blogger and editor, sentenced to 1000 lashes and 10 years imprisonment for blogging about free speech.
Badawi’s case is thought to be the subject of a current review by Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court, but despite an international outcry Amnesty fears the blogger could be lashed again this Friday. Nearly three-quarters of a million people have supported an Amnesty campaign calling for the Saudi authorities to call off the flogging and release Mr Badawi."
For those who may be able to take part, here are the details of tomorrow's vigil:
What: Candle-lit vigil
Where: Outside the Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh, EH99 1SP.
When: 5-6pm on Thursday 22 January.
