For years we have been exposing the human rights abuses in North Korea: it is a totalitarian state where tens of thousands of people are enslaved and tortured.

What is less well known is that those who brave the cruel journey across the border to China are rarely given the shelter they crave.

Instead, if found out, they are arrested and forced to return to North Korea – to face imprisonment, torture and even death.
