oyeux Noël (Merry Christmas) Film Screening
The Amnesty International Tower Hamlets & Newham group invites you to a screening of Joyeux Noël (Merry Christmas), a 2005 epic war drama film based on the Christmas truce of December 1914 depicted through the eyes of French, Scottish and German soldiers mired in the trenches of the Western Front.
This short truce provides a moment of hope and a reminder of the goodness in humanity. It was written and directed by Christian Carion.
The film, which included one of the last appearances of Ian Richardson before his death, was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 78th Academy Awards.
It is a fictionalised account of an actual event that took place in December 1914 when Wilhelm, German Crown Prince, sent the lead singer of the Berlin Imperial Opera company on a solo visit to the front line.
The film will be shown at Sands Cinema Club in Rotherhithe, East London on Sunday 4th November, 6pm.
Tickets cost £11.37 (£1.37 booking fee) and all profits will go to Amnesty International UK Section Charitable Trust.
