Despite violating both domestic law on the right to a fair trial and many international human rights protections, Chinese state television regularly broadcasts confessions. These televised confessions are routinely forced and extracted through threats, torture, and fear. Safeguard Defenders works directly with human rights defenders in Asia. Today we will hear testimonies from their recent publication ‘Scripted and Staged’ which highlights this use of forced confessions in China. Chaired by Eilidh MacPherson.
