Every year, around 30,000 people are detained under immigration control in the UK while a decision on permission to enter the country is made, or prior to their removal or deportation. The majority of those detained are ultimately released back into the communities across the UK, their detention having served no purpose. Today we hear the experiences of individuals who have spent time in detention centres in the UK. Chaired by Juliet Swann.

Authors Reading: Rania Abouzeid, Gill Arbuthnott, Elisabeth Åsbrink and James Bloodworth.
