In Turkey self-censorship is widely practiced, with citizens deleting social media posts and refraining from making public comments for fear of dismissal from their jobs, closure of their organisations or criminal prosecution. Peoples’ peaceful exercise of their right to freedom of expression has led to thousands of criminal prosecutions, including for defamation and on trumped-up terrorism-related charges, with many serving arbitrary and lengthy pre-trial detention. Today we hear from some of those Erdogan wants to silence. Chaired by Eilidh MacPherson.

Authors Reading: Roxanne Bouchard, Helen McClory, Gina Miller and Gunnar Staalesen.
