Human rights violations hidden in plain sight

They’re not over there, they’re right here. Human rights violations, masked in plain sight. In your town, in your community. Even when you don’t notice them, there are people fighting unseen issues.

Human rights allow us to live safely and with dignity. They protect us from violence and abuse, and they ensure we have access to essentials like food, shelter and warmth.

But the current cost of living crisis means that right now, scores of people across the UK are facing barriers to accessing these fundamental rights, including:

  • Millions of families relying on food banks to eat
  • Record numbers of children living in temporary accommodation or unsuitable rental properties
  • Thousands of children being admitted to hospitals with illnesses linked to inadequate living conditions

Human rights violations are not somewhere in the distance; they are the reality, right here and right now. They are happening in virtually every community in the UK, but often they are hidden in plain sight.

There’s a human behind every right, and they’re right here.
