These pages are for students who are already taking action for Amnesty or who want to get involved.

• Get involved as an individual - you can make a difference right now by going to our action centre. If you are currently a student you can also join Amnesty International for just £7.50 per year. You'll receive regular magazines and news as well as further opportunities to take action.
• Join/start a student group - if you want to action in the company of others, join or start a student group at your university. There are over 100 groups in the UK. Student groups write letters, fundraise, organise events and generally have fun in the process!

What are Student Groups?

Amnesty's student groups are based in universities and colleges around the UK. They meet at least once a week during term time to campaign in various ways, and like local groups are involved in campaigning and taking action according to Amnesty's human rights agenda.

We recognise the important role that students play in the campaign against human rights abuses. We have established a network of groups to stage coordinated campaigning actions against human rights abuses, the Student Action Network.

The Student Action Network

Student groups that are part of the Student Action Network receive regular campaign mailings, which include background information on current campaigns and ideas for action and letter writing.

Using this information, student groups organise letter writing and campaigning actions in their own universities, as well as participating in actions organised centrally by Amnesty. Members of the network also receive a regular newsletter, which contains news relevant to student groups.

The National Student Conference, which takes place annually, provides the ideal opportunity for student groups to meet and share experiences, and learn more about human rights.

How Does Amnesty Involve Students?

The National Student Committee forms a vital link between Amnesty and student groups, and ensures that the voice of students is heard on important policy decisions. Student groups can also have a direct input at the National Student Conference and the Annual General Meeting of the Amnesty UK section. As a student, how do I get Involved with Amnesty?

There are numerous ways to get involved:

1. You can ask your Students Union Officers if there is already an Amnesty student group at your university, or consult the student group list. Alternatively, you can contact the Education and Student team on student@amnesty.org.uk or +44 (0)207 033 1596
2. If there isn't a group at your university, then why not start one up?
3. You can also become an individual member of Amnesty - there is a reduced membership rate for students. Find out more
