About this cycle
We'll meet on Clapham Common in South London so you can set off between 6.30am and 9.30am on Sunday 7 September. The route is fully signposted and there will be a big group of us cycling, so there's no chance of getting lost!
Then it's a fun ride over the North and South Downs 54 miles to the sea!
Lunch is provided at the half-way point and our events team will be there to greet you when you get to Brighton beach for a well-deserved ice-cream and relax in our deck chairs. Sign up for a place
We'll support you all the way
Join Team Amnesty and we'll give you training tips to get you road-ready for this challenge - like these nuggets of advice from Olympian cyclist Emma Pooley
Support on the ride
You'll ride in a large group, and there'll be trained medics and mechanics nearby throughout, to give you and your bike support should you need it.
Your £35 registration fee covers lunch, support crew on the day and an Amnesty t-shirt. Please note it does not pay for transport to the start of the event or to take you home at the end of the day - you will have to arrange this yourself.
Just raise as much as you can! There's no minimum amount you need to fundraise for this event, but we have prizes for reaching set targets.
If you raise £100 or more, an Amnesty high-vis vest is yours. Raise £500 or more and you'll get a fantastic Amnesty goody bag, stuffed with merchandise and treats. We'll give you an Amnesty t-shirt and fundraising pack with loads of materials to help you raise what you can.
All abilities welcome!
This is a great event to stretch your cycling skills and take on a challenge if you've not done a longer ride before, or want to get back into cycling. It's also a chance for accomplished cyclists to train for bigger events, or improve on a personal best.
If you've not cycled a distance this long before, we recommend you work up to the 54 miles before the big day. With a few mid-distance rides under your belt this is a perfectly achievable challenge, and you can take the ride at whatever pace you like.
Ride on your own
You'll join a group of Team Amnesty cyclists - there's likely to be a range of ages and fitness levels. The day is a great way to meet like-minded people, so don't worry about joining on your own - there will be other solo riders too and we'll gladly welcome you to the team!
...or get your friends involved!
Why not get a group of friends or colleagues to sign up too? Having company and encouragement as you train for the big day can be just the thing to keep you going when you’re tired or lacking motivation, and group rides can be a lot of fun. Plus, you can lift each other’s spirits along the course on the day. This is a very sociable event: the more the merrier!
Whether you're on your own or applying as a group, all are welcome to join Team Amnesty to ride from London to Brighton
What it's like to take part
'I thought I'd be the only nervous novice but there were people of all ages and abilities - racers pushing for a personal best but also everyday riders like me.'
Though by her own admission not a 'serious' cyclist, Anna conquered the hills of the South Downs and smash her fundraising target. And she had a great time doing it!
