Issues
Human rights shape every part of our lives - from our right to live and work with dignity, to being treated equally regardless of our background. Amnesty International UK challenges abuses, supports individuals and communities at risk and pushes for change across dozens of issues affecting all of us.
Priority campaigns
We are primarily focused on three major areas that present an immediate threat to human rights, including our everyday rights, the rise of authoritarianism and international crises. Our work brings together research, advocacy and people power to protect hard‑won freedoms.
Everyday rights
In the UK today too many people are missing out on the key building blocks for a fair and dignified life. It should not be this way. That’s why Amnesty is campaigning to change UK law so our everyday rights are protected.
Rise of authoritarianism
In this country and around the world, hard-won freedoms are being stolen. Respect for diversity is under attack, and those with the courage to stand up for what they believe in are being persecuted and criminalised. This is not the world we’ve fought for. We all need to come together to resist this global phenomenon.
International crises
Conflict is rising globally, civilians are in danger, while poverty and inequality are deepening. We confront human rights violations committed during armed conflicts and other crises, through real-time documentation, exposure, advocacy, and campaigning.
Other issues
Alongside our priority campaigns, we work on a wide range of connected issues. These include protecting people belonging to specific communities, and exploring how certain aspects of life like business, technology and sports impact our rights. Explore these topics to find actions, resources and stories from across our movement.
Gender justice
Gender justice seeks to address the systems that perpetuate discrimination and oppression based on gender. It seeks to create a society where everyone, regardless of gender identity, can live free from violence, exclusion, and inequity.
Right to protest
Throughout history, people-powered protest has changed the world. But this vital right itself is under attack. Learn about the work we do to protect our protest rights.
Racial justice
Government policies like the "Prevent" duty and use of "crime predicting" technology by police target racialised people and erode their human rights. The power to change this is in our hands.
Individuals and communities at risk
Ordinary individuals around the world are facing imprisonment, torture, and even death just for their beliefs, their job, who they love and even who they are. Find out how you can help us fight for their freedom.
Refugee & migrant rights
People leave their homes for a safer, better life - for work, education, or forced to flee human rights violations. We demand all refugees and migrants are treated with dignity and respect, and an immigration and asylum system that is fair and effective.
European Convention on Human Rights
The European Convention on Human Rights gives all of us the tools to demand we are treated fairly and with dignity in our society. Some politicians want to pull the UK out of the ECHR and roll back our rights.
Repression in Hong Kong
People in Hong Kong are facing an increased crackdown on their rights to freedom of expression. The UK government must act now to protect Hong Kongers in the UK.
Business & human rights
Businesses must respect the rights of the people who work for them, but many do not. We investigate who's cutting corners at the expense of human rights.
Sports & human rights
From fighting racism, sexism and homophobia to protecting the rights of the workers building stadiums, we campaign around events like the Olympics and the World Cup to raise awareness of human rights abuses.
