Safety of PSNI tasers questioned as death toll hits 334

Policeman using a taser gunTasers are inherently open to abuse and are not as safe as the industry would suggest. The deployment of tasers in Northern Ireland should be strictly limit to life-threatening situations and to a small number of specialist PSNI officers who receive rigorous training. 334 people have died in the US after being shot by a Taser since 2001.

Convention on Modern Liberty - 28 February 2009

Belfast will be live-linked to the Convention on Modern Liberty taking place in London. The convention will feature speakers from across the political spectrum and discuss the crisis of fundamental rights and freedoms' and modern liberty and human rights in Northern Ireland, nationally or internationally.

Bill of Rights for Northern Ireland Takes a step closer

Ten years on from the Belfast Agreement, the advice of the Human Rights Commission marks an important step towards Northern Ireland achieving it's own Bill of Rights. The UK government must now move quickly to consult fully with the people of Northern Ireland.

Shock Report on rape

An Amnesty poll, on attitudes to violence against women, shows that 46 percent of Northern Ireland university students believe women are partially or totally responsible for being raped if they behaved in a flirtatious manner.
