Amnesty International today (31 August) expressed deep shock at the execution of 12 Nepalese men who had been taken hostage in Iraq. Israel/Occupied Territories: Suicide attacks against civilians condemned as crime against humanity
Amnesty International today (31 August) condemned in the strongest terms the suicide attacks on two buses in Be'er Sheva in the south of Israel, which killed at least 15 people and wounded 90 others. Peru: National human rights plan needed to end consequences of internal conflict
(Madrid - Lima) One year on from publication of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's report, the Peruvian government needs to show the necessary political will to put an end to impunity for human rights violations committed during the 20 years of internal conflict, Amnesty International said today. Bangladesh: 'Seige' threat to religious minority
Islamist leaders have threatened to 'lay siege to' the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat religious community's headquarters in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka tomorrow (27 August) unless the government declares the sect to be 'non-Muslim'. This is the latest in a series of attempts by Islamist groups to prevent Ahmadis from openly practising their beliefs. Islamist groups have tried to shut down community centres, put up hate signs on Ahmadi places of worship and have confiscated religious materials and prayer books.
