As hundreds of thousands of people take to the streets in cities across Brazil, it's clear that the country’s police are ill-prepared to deal with protests on this scale.

Renata Neder, Human Rights Advisor for Amnesty in Brazil, is in Rio de Janeiro, documenting the human rights impact of the biggest wave of protests since the end of military rule in the 1980s.

Protests were sparked on 10 June in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro after a public transport fare hike. They quickly spread to dozens of cities, with protesters angry about many other issues.
