Statement in response to the news of the death of Inez McCormack

Posted: 21 January 2013

Patrick Corrigan, Northern Ireland Programme Director of Amnesty International, said:

"It is with deep sadness that we learned of the death of Inez McCormack. She was an inspirational leader for human rights change over many years.

"Inez McCormack's legacy is to be found in the fairer Northern Ireland which she helped create and in the equality and rights protections she helped to enshrine in our statute books. Most importantly of all, Inez McCormack's legacy is to be found in the generations of young human rights activists whom she inspired, both here and around the world, through her leadership, determination and humour.

"Our thoughts are with her family and many friends at this time."
