USA: Guantánamo Bay - response to reports of opening of new prison block

Responding to reports that the US military authorities at Guantanamo Bay have moved a group of detainees into a new maximum-security prison block at the camp, Amnesty International UK Campaigns Director Tim Hancock said:

'Guantanamo is an icon of lawlessness where people are detained arbitrarily beyond the access of the courts in conditions that amount to cruel, inhuman treatment.

'Instead of building a new prison block, the US administration should close it down once and for all.'
