Wales: Service in Llandaff Cathedral in support of the Stop Violence Against Women campaign

On Friday 25th November 2005, there was a special service at Llandaff Cathedral, in support of the Stop Violence Against Women Campaign. The candle lighting evening was the first in a series of events organised by Amnesty International in association with other Women's Organisations. Candle lit vigils are to be held across Wales by members of, for example, the Women's Institute, Mewn Cymru and Assembly Members and MPs.

The evening at Llandaff Cathedral marked the launch of 16 days of activism to Stop Violence Against Women. It was attended by First Minister, Rhodri Morgan; Jane Hutt, Labour Business Minister and Assembly Member for the Vale of Glamorgan. Also present were Eleanor White, Director of Amnesty International Wales; Joyce Watson of the Women's Institute and the Archbishop of Wales, Rt Rev Dr Barry Morgan.

A prayer was said by Eleanor White and poems were read by representatives of various religions. Altogether the night was the perfect start to what we hope will be a very successful campaign.
