Working closely with the advocacy office, we provide general policy for AIUK. In some cases this involves adapting International Secretariat policy to UK circumstances; in others this involves devising policy. In addition we identify possible gaps in AIUK policy or a specific need for policy making and work to address these.

We work closely with the rest of the Policy and Government Affairs team to influence and shape UK domestic and foreign policy on human rights. For example, the Foreign Affairs Committee traditionally holds inquiries into the UK's human rights record and scrutinises the Foreign and Commonwealth Office's Human Rights Reports. Coordinated by the Policy Office, AIUK submits written evidence to the inquiry, putting forward our concerns and commenting on the FCO's report. AIUK representatives are then usually asked to appear before the committee to give oral evidence. This forms an important part of holding the UKG accountable for their human rights policy overseas. The Policy Office volunteer will play an important role in assisting with this process through providing administrative and research support. For full details of the role, please see the attached "task form" below.

HR Manager (Projects)

Amnesty International UK (AIUK) is an integral part of a huge global organisation, representing Amnesty throughout the UK. And with 200 staff, 80 volunteers and offices in London, Belfast, Cardiff and Edinburgh, our HR department is central to everything we do. To make an effective, coordinated impact, we have to be as efficient as possible. Match our HR systems to our business needs, and you'll make sure we are.

About the role:

A real self-starter, you'll take over responsibility for a project to implement self-service in support of our HR function. It's all about making our processes and procedures as streamlined and efficient as possible. Drawing on your expertise in HR Pro, you'll deliver effective work flows in attendance management and recruitment ensuring they meet operational needs and have a huge impact from the word go. Although this project will be part of the role, we'll also look to you to support the HR team in general management duties. Whether you're advising on HR policy, working on casework or liaising with our Trade Union, you'll help to keep the department running efficiently in support of Amnesty Internationals wider efforts.

About you:

An experienced HR Manager, you'll have a track record of operational success, plus a CIPD qualification to back it up. With knowledge of using the HR Pro database, you'll have experience of implementing self-service/intranet solutions and the ability to build back-end workflows; advising and influencing colleagues in their effective implementation. You'll certainly be able to handle different projects simultaneously while working to deadlines. Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships at all levels are essential.

About us:

Our aim is simple: an end to human rights abuses. Independent, international and influential, we campaign for justice, freedom and truth wherever they're denied. Already our network of over three million members and supporters is making a difference in 150 countries. Whether we're applying pressure through powerful research or direct lobbying, mass demonstrations or online campaigning, we're all inspired by hope for a better world. One where human rights are respected and protected by everyone, everywhere.

Please see the attached job description for full details and person specification.
