March 2024 Update

A good discussion between our core members/Co-Chairs on Monday resulted in the following updates:

The Quiz on 20 April. Focus is now on promoting the event so:

Keith has kindly picked up a few leaflets to drop off at local Woking establishments

all of us should speak to friends/family about the event;

Jen has agreed to hook up with local groups (Guildford and Runnymede), and promote on Roundabout Surrey and What's On in Surrey

Rob Searle, Jen's husband, has agreed to promote the event in the Woking News & Mail

In addition, in terms of logistics:

Adam has confirmed the use of the sound system

Rob Searle is doing the questions;

Steph will do the admin of the team scores and pound game;

we also need to think about raffle prizes (Monica has already indicated she will bake - yum!);

I will organise some campaign / cards for participants to sign and also bring the AI Collection tins to place on each of the tables;

there will be no refreshments provided;

We have received responses from the Foreign & Commonwealth and Development Office to our letter to David Cameron (in relation to the Palestinian journalists have gone missing in Gaza) indicating that UK has signed a statement from the Media Freedom Coalition expressing concerns for the safety of journalist; we also received a letter from the Office of the CEO in Hong Kong strongly stating that we (external groups) should stop interfering with their internal security matters (!) in relation to Chow Hung-tang. We shall monitor both cases anyway.

Our next meeting on the 8 April will be finalising the Quiz event, plus signing any letters and any updates.

The following meetings:

13 May will be about Pakistan, assuming we can get speakers (Monica is contacting AI UK, and Keith has a contact as well).

1 June is the AGM Resolutions;

22 June is the AGM itself;

1 July will be Syria.

August - no meeting.

2 September will be Israel/Palestine.

21 Collection Day.

1 October will be China (I will do this).

4 Nov will be planning Write for Rights.

2 Dec group W4R

7 Dec W4R stall (I need to organise our submission for Waitrose).

Thanks for support as well. Trust you find these summaries/actions of some interest and use.

Sincere thanks to Adam for being our social media/internet guru and keeping our website up to date!

See you next month. Keep well and safe and keep on campaigning...

Best wishes,

Steph, Keith and Monica (Co-Chairs Amnesty Woking)
