United Nations - flying the flag in Chippy

Preparing to hoist the United Nations flag

On the 78th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, commemorated by United Nations Day on 24th October, members of the Chipping Norton Amnesty Group joined with representatives of the Town Council to raise the United Nations flag on the town's flagpole in the Millennium Garden.  Predictably it was a windless morning and we waited in vain for the flag to truly fly!

For more photos and an account of proceedings, which included a few words from Kate Ward, representing our Amnesty Group, and the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Steve Akers, see the article on the Town Council's website at https://www.chippingnorton-tc.gov.uk/flying-the-united-nations-flag-2/

Whilst Amnesty International campaigns to protect human rights and for a world where human rights are enjoyed by all, human rights is a cross-cutting theme in all UN policies and programmes in the key areas of peace and security, development, humanitarian assistance, and economic and social affairs.
