Monashay + Director Q&A
Date: Wed 9 October 2013
Première of a new documentary on the lives of Roma in Romania.
Monashay (dir. Elena Dirstaru, UK, 2013, 36 minutes) follows the personal stories of Romani women of different generations in rural Romania and how their lives are shaped by the daily discrimination they face.
Filled with warmth and humour that shatters stereotypes, it gives these women a chance to tell us their views about themselves and society, including their hopes for their children's future.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker, Elena Dirstaru, and a panel discussion with:
- Barbora Černušáková, Amnesty International Secretariat,
- Ognyan Stanchev, Roma rights activist
- Ulrike Schmidt, Hackney & Islington Amnesty Group
This free event is jointly organised by the Hampstead and Hackney & Islington Amnesty International local groups. Booking is recommended
