If I Can Be A Voice - A visual and oral history of five Afghan women living in the UK

From:  Thu 1 August 2013
To:  Sat 10 August 2013

This is the first exhibition to record the unique experiences of what it means to be an Afghan woman in the UK. The British Afghan Women‟s Society women's history project DAWN is based on women telling their own stories.

Driven out of their country by war, they have settled in the UK over the last 40 years. The stories of these women – five of whom are featured in this exhibition – share their experiences growing up in Afghanistan and the UK; living through war, revolution and then exile; and returning to their home of great uncertainty.

They focus on their Afghan roots and culture, what it felt like coming into the UK, the culture shock, and their hopes for Afghanistan‟s future.

Curated by Amnesty International.
