Capital Murder: Inside the Israeli authorities’ regime of discrimination and control in Occupied East Jerusalem With Ben White – author of Israeli Apartheid: A Beginners Guide.
Ben White is a freelance journalist and writer, specialising in Palestine/Israel. His first book, ‘Israeli Apartheid: A Beginner’s Guide’, was published by Pluto Press in 2009, receiving praise from the likes of Desmond Tutu, Ilan Pappe, Nur Masalha, and Ali Abunimah.
Ben has been regularly visiting the Middle East since 2003 and his articles have appeared on the Guardian’s ‘Comment is Free’ website, Electronic Intifada, the New Statesman, Christian Science Monitor, Middle East International and many others.
In Occupied East Jerusalem, Israel is strengthening its grip on the city in defiance of international law. Recent developments have included the consolidation of illegal settlements, the eviction of Palestinians from their homes, and the isolation of neighbourhoods behind the Wall.
East Jerusalem is part of the West Bank territory occupied by Israel in June 1967 and under international law it remains occupied territory, regardless of Israel’s decision to unilaterally annex it to Israel.
The UN and the international community at large concur with this view and Israel stands alone in contending otherwise. While the Israeli government, Jerusalem municipality, and religious settler groups work together to make sure that Jerusalem stays the 'united, eternal Jewish capital', what are the consequences for East Jerusalem's Palestinians, and the wider 'peace process’?
