The face of injustice: Peter Pringle and Sunny Jacobs on death row
Date: Thu 10 October 2013
To mark World Day Against the Death Penalty, Amnesty International Ely City Group’s fourth annual lecture is delivered by Peter Pringle and Sunny Jacobs.
Sent to death row in Ireland and the USA respectively, both Peter and Sunny were victims of wrongful convictions - sentenced to death for crimes they did not commit. Both spent years in solitary confinement, accused of complicity in murder.
Their experiences are moving and shocking, but ultimately this is a life-enhancing love story. After many years of suffering on different sides of the world, and a constant fight for the truth to be believed, both Peter and Sunny were eventually exonerated. They met in 1998 in Ireland when Sunny, campaigning against the death penalty, gave a talk at an Amnesty International event in Galway. They married in New York in 2011. Details of their experiences can be found on their website SunnyandPeter.com
At this lecture the couple will speak about their experiences on death row and why they have both dedicated their lives to ending this cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment.
Following the lecture Sunny and Peter will answer your questions, and you can purchase signed copies of the books they have written on their remarkable experiences.
All are welcome. There is no entrance fee, although there will be a collection.
