Conference: Time for justice - 7 October 2010

Time for Justice event posterAmnesty International is working with a group of victims/survivors of institutional child abuse in Northern Ireland to help support them in their quest for justice, truth and redress.

Ahead of the Northern Ireland Executive's decision on the need for an inquiry into this historical abuse, the conference will bring together key actors from the inquiry and redress processes in the Republic of Ireland and Scotland to share their experiences so that lessons may be learned. Belfast murals tackle global poverty

Peace mural in BelfastTwo new murals on both sides of Belfast's 'peaceline' tackle head on the human rights abuses associated with global poverty. They are the brainchild of Amnesty International's Belfast youth group and have been completed with the assistance of acclaimed mural artists Danny Devenny, Marty Lyons and Mark Ervine.

Ireland 'nearly there' on gay equality, says Senator Norris

Senator David NorrisAhead of the Amnesty International Belfast Pride lecture this year's speaker, Senator David Norris, said that Ireland - both north and south - had made great progress in terms of the accomplishment of full human and civil rights for gay people. 'But we are not there yet,' he added.
