The award encourages young people to become human rights reporters, to investigate what's going on in the world and bring human rights abuses to light.

Congratulations to the 2011 Award winners!
The quality of entries was extremely good and made a great impression on our judges, who included the children's authors Malorie Blackman and Elizabeth Laird, plus the award winning Guardian journalist, Ian Cobain. The winners of the 2011 competition were announced at the glittering YHRR Awards ceremony on 19 May at Amnesty International UK's Human Rights Action Centre. It was a fantastic day, with the three shortlisted pupils in each of the age categories attending with parents, teachers and fellow pupils. Pupils also attended workshops at the Guardian and Amnesty, writing their own newspaper front page, honing their interviewing skills and planning their own digital campaign. Photos on Flickr |
