I wrote because I wanted to scream
A survivor of Cambodia's killing fields, Loung Ung left the country with her eldest brother in 1980, at the age of 10. She went to live in the USA, but she never forgot her early years. Her first book of memoirs, First they killed my father, was an international bestseller. She delivered the Amnesty lecture at the Edinburgh International Book Festival. Here Loung Ung speaks about life under the Khmer Rouge and explains what drove her to writing.
