"Last year, student groups managed to raise a whopping £20,000 for Amnesty and I know that this year we can beat that! Whether you want to organise a cake sale, a gig at the SU, or even a sponsored sky dive, the fundraising team will give you all the advice and support you need to raise money while promoting human rights in and around your university campuses. Get creative, get in touch and get fundraising!"
Harrison Littler, Head of the Amnesty Student Action Network Committee

Today's Top Fundraising Tip:  Easter will soon be upon us, so why not plan an event to mark the end of term? Throw a 'Spring Fling' party, or sell tickets for an 'Easter egg' hunt and hide goodies around the campus, with mysterious clues hinting at locations! Get the whole University hunting! Or sell cakes, chocolate or beautiful bunches of spring flowers.

5 Easy Fundraising Ideas

1 Have an AmnesTea

2 Throw a party

3 Hold a collection on campus - you could get dressed up to attract the attention of passers-by, or sit in a cage to highlight Amnesty's work. Don't forget to get permission from your university to hold a collection.

4 Organise a sponsored event - from sponsored leg waxing to sponsored runs. Anything goes!

5 Collect old mobile phones

Last year Cambridge University Amnesty Society won for the second year running - who will knock them off the top spot this year to raise the most amount of money?

BEST FUNDRAISING EVENT
Amnesty students have put on some amazing events - last year's included sponsored leg-waxing, large-scale club nights and comedy nights. The Amnesty group at BPP Law School, London, scooped Best Fundraising Event 2009 with a club night that was attended by over 1,000 people! So get creative and put on an event to remember...

MOST REGULAR FUNDRAISERS
As well as big events, we want to recognize the dedication of little and often. Many groups show consistent commitment by holding numerous events throughout the year. Last year Glasgow University scooped the prize after having organised 17 different events including quizzes, comedy nights, collections, cross dressing parties, a celidh, talent shows... the list goes on!

We also have a new category for this year's competition:
BEST COLLABORATION
We want to encourage groups to work together with their fundraising and activism, so we would love to see student groups work in collaboration for their events. We suggest that money raised from the event is split equally amongst those groups involved (so that your group could be in for a chance at winning another category!) and then let us know about how you worked together so that we can judge the winners for 'Best Collaboration'.

The winning groups took home trophies and some fantastic prizes including tickets to the Big Chill festival, tickets to West End shows, a deluxe hamper of food and drink and ever popular goodie bags.
