More information
References
Your acceptance as a volunteer will be subject to the receipt of two satisfactory
references.
Applicants from abroad
If you are applying from abroad, it may be impractical for you to come for an
interview before the work commences. In this case, please give as much information
as possible on your application form so that we are able to make an assessment
based on your application form and references. Note that Amnesty is not able to
help finance travel to the UK or find accommodation. So you will need to be able
to support yourself while you are staying in the UK.
Minimum age to volunteer in the office
You will need to be at least 16 years old to volunteer in our offices.
Disclosure of criminal background
Criminal records will be taken into account for recruitment purposes only when
the conviction is relevant. Unless the nature of the voluntary work demands it,
you will not be asked to disclose convictions which are 'spent' under the Rehabilitation
of Offenders Act 1974. Having an 'unspent' conviction will not necessarily bar
you from volunteering. This will depend on the circumstances and background to
your offence.
A few voluntary roles at Amnesty meet the requirements in respect of exempted questions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. These are mainly roles which involve contact with children. If the voluntary role you are applying for falls into this category this will be clearly stated on the role description. If you are selected for a role that involves access to children you will be subject to this procedure. All checks are carried out in the strictest confidence and only made in connection with your application for volunteering and for no other purpose.
