Good News
India: Dr Binayak Sen, a human rights defender, was granted bail and reunited
with his family after two years in prison. He thanked everyone who campaigned
for his release,
and said he would continue to defend human rights despite the risks. This is welcome
news but we need to keep up the
pressure until the charges against Dr Sen are dropped. Take action now
Honduras: Two men have been found guilty of the murder of human rights lawyer Dionisio Díaz García
in 2006. The organisation Dionisio worked for has thanked Amensty for all the
letters, support and encouragement they received through out the case. Find out more

Mexico: Bárbara Italia Méndez was detained on 4 May 2006 in San Salvador Atenco. Police officers beat her,
threatened her and raped her. There has been no investigation into the case.
Laos: The October protesters have spent nearly a decade in prison after organising a peaceful demonstration

Yemen: Fatima Hussein al-Badi, a 46-year-old housewife was sentenced to death in 2001 following an unfair
trial. We now fear for her life following the execution of another woman on similar
charges in April.
