significant contribution to the UK public's awareness and understanding of human
rights issues.
The winners of the Amnesty International UK Media Awards 2008 were announced in a ceremony in London on 17 June.

Good news: Abdul Karim al-Khaiwani released
Yemeni journalist Abdul Karim al-Khaiwani, the recipient of the 2008 Special Award for Human Rights Journalism under Threat, has been released on the 26 September 2008. He was jailed for six years on
9 June as a result of his
professional activities
as a journalist and peaceful criticism of government policies. More about his release
At the awards ceremony in London, people expressed their support for Abdul Karim al-Khaiwani by holding placards with 'We are with you in your struggle for justice' in his native Arabic.
