Closed - Young Women for Change: Afghan women standing up for their rights

Update 1 January 2013: Write for Rights 2012 has now ended, and this action has closed.

We continue to work closely with Young Women for Change, and lobbying for the support of women's rights in Afghanistan. Thank you to everybody who took action - the pressure you have applied will help us in this aim no end. We're collecting together all of the images received and will be delivering them to Young Women for Change in the near future.

Members of Young Women for Change visited our 2012 Student Conference and thanked all of you that showed support for their work, watch the video below to see how important such support is to them.

About Young Women for Change

Members of Afghan Women for Change. © Courtney BodyYoung Women for Change (YWC) is a grassroots feminist movement with the aim of empowering and improving the lives of women across Afghanistan.

Among other activities they run an awareness programme to help women take a greater part in social and political life, have led protests demanding justice for women experiencing violence, conducted the first large-scale study of sexual harassment and, in collaboration with another youth group called Hadia, organised the first ever anti-street harassment march.

They do all of this at great personal risk - women's rights defenders in Afghanistan face violence and threats from government forces and Taliban alike.

Showing Young Women for Change your support

Showing your support for these brave human rights defenders does not only offer powerful encouragement it will also help to reduce the risk they face on a daily basis. We asked you to add your photograph to show you stand by members of Young Women for Change and the work that they do. An incredible number of you responded - here are the pictures you added!
