As armed violence continues to escalate, the illegal arms trade is having an
impact on the everyday lives for people across Horn and East Africa. The presence
and actions of oil companies from other countries with poor human rights records
has destabilised the region, especially in Chad and Sudan.
The region suffers from systematic human rights abuses, including killing, torture, rape, looting and destruction of property. Human rights defenders continue to be at risk as governments across the region fail to protect human rights.
