Urge governments to vote 'yes' for a global Arms Trade Treaty

The arms trade is out of control and is fuelling conflict, poverty and human rights abuses worldwide. Every government is responsible. We are campaigning for a global Arms Trade Treaty to bring the trade in weapons under control.

This is a crucial time to secure a new international Arms Trade Treaty. In October, the First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, which deals with disarmament issues, will take a vote on a resolution to begin the process of achieving an Arms Trade Treaty.

Seven governments (Argentina, Australia, Costa Rica, Finland, Japan, Kenya and the UK) have recently put forward a draft of this resolution. 51 governments have already pledged their support for a treaty, but this is not enougth.  A large majority of the 192 members of the UN need to support the resolution in order for it to succeed, and your help will be crucial to ensure this vote is won by a convincing and clear majority.

Campaigners from around the world are lobbying key governments to make sure this resolution is a success. A treaty based upon states' existing responsibilities under international humanitarian law is now for the first time within our grasp.
