All over the world people are imprisoned, tortured, and persecuted for writing critically about their government or country. Well-known authors will show solidarity with these writers by reading their work. Each day we focus on a different topic.

Themes this year include children’s rights, LGTBI equality, Turkey, Syria, Russia, the USA, and the global refugee crisis.

The free daily readings take place between 5.30pm and 6.15pm at the Edinburgh International Book Festival in Charlotte Square Gardens, with tickets available from the box office on the day.

This year the EIBF runs from 12th – 27th August.
