North Korea: Born to die in a prison camp
Shin Dong-hyuk was born into a North Korean prison camp and that is where he was expected to stay for the rest of his life. He survived torture, constant hunger and being forced to watch the execution of his mother and brother before he escaped in 2005, one of only a handful of people to ever do so. An estimated 200,000 men, women and children still endure a life of perpetual torment in camps like this.
